Here is question I get a lot from HD Owners. What are the torque specs for the Harley Davidson primary cover and derby cover screws? My answer almost always is to definitely don’t over torque. These screws have a tendency to stick when you over torque them and will be really hard to get them out if they do.

For a Dyna Low Rider the Outer Primary Cover is 108-120 inch (9-10 ft.) lbs. Derby is 84-108 inch (7-9 ft.) lbs.

All Twin Cam motors are 90-108 in.lbs. for Derby Cover. Inspection cover should be about same or a little less.

You can use the following SAE Torque Chart as a guide. Size of bolt determines the optimum torque to apply so to not over tighten or to not leave it too loose.

Except for critical components, most torque specs for Harley Davidson are the same as SAE.
